Argentinean nonwovens producer Scalter will purchase a three-beam polypropylene spunbond line from a Chinese company. The new line will make 8000 tons of nonwovens per year. The new line will enhance Scalter’s current operation, which includes two spunbond lines, two chemical bonded lines, a thermal bonded line, a printing press as well as needlelooms at its facility near Buenos Aires.
 
Scalter was first established in Buenos Aires in November 1950 when it began making woven fabrics for wool interlinings. Soon this operation grew to 100 looms and, in the 1970s, the company diversified into chemical bonded nonwovens, becoming the first company in Argentina to make nonwovens exclusively for interlinings.
 
The company bought its first spunbond line in 2011 and targets a number of markets with this technology.
